Biological effects of grape stem extracts on human cancer cell lines

چکیده
Grapes are rich in polyphenolic compounds, which known for their beneficial effects on human health. Grape stems byproducts of the winemaking procedure. They exert antioxidant effects; however, they can also become pollutants when discarded without control into environment due to high organic content. The main aim present study was examine potential prooxidant/anticancer grape stem extracts, promoting rationale scientific exploitation such compounds. Therefore, three extracts derived from native Greek vine varieties, Mavrodaphne, Muscat and Rhoditis were examined ability alter redox status [i.e., endogenous levels reduced glutathione reactive oxygen species (ROS)] HeLa HepG2 cancer cell lines. results revealed that exerted prooxidant tested lines, whereas extract Mavrodaphne did not any effects. fact functioned as prooxidants appears be detrimental cells, since more susceptible concentrations ROS, contrary healthy cells possess robust defense mechanisms. On whole, demonstrated study, it may prove promising agents against specific in vitro model. However, further studies required confirm these findings, vivo settings.

Effects of berberine on proliferation, cell cycle distribution and apoptosis of human breast cancer T47D and MCF7 cell lines
Objective(s):Berberine, a naturally occurring isoquinoline alkaloid, has shown antitumor properties in some in vitro systems. But the effect of berberine on breast cancer has not yet been completely studied. In this study, we evaluated anticancer properties of berberine in comparison to doxorubicin. Materials and Methods: The antiproliferative effects of berberine and doxorubicin alone and in ...

The genus Stachys belongs to Lamiaceae family with about 300 species and worldwide distribution. In the present study, the cytotoxic activity of four fractions of different Satchys species (S. byzatina C. Koch., S. inflata Benth., S. setifera Ten. and S. persica Gmel.), has been investigated against HT-29 (colon carcinoma), Caco-2 (colorecta...

Mentha pulegium L. is one of the Mentha (Labiatae) species that is grown in many different parts of the earth including northern Iran. The total ethanolic extract of the aerial parts of this plant is used in this work to investigate on the possible cytotoxicity on two different cell lines. Human lung carcinoma cells (A549) and human breast cancer (MCF7), have been used to show the clonogenic co...
